WEST AUGUSTA, VIRGINIA  ·  1,000 PRIVATE ACRES

ACTIVITIES

A thousand acres to wander

Fishing, walking, yard games and whatever the season happens to be offering along the trail.

CATCH AND RELEASE

Fishing

Several ponds hold big fish and have done for years, because the rules here are simple: artificial lures only, and everything goes back in the water.

Largemouth bass, sun perch, crappie, catfish, pike and the occasional giant sucker. Bring your tackle if you have it. If you don’t — or you have never done this before — we rent gear and give lessons, but ask when you book so we can schedule it.

ON FOOT

Hiking

With a thousand private acres there is a trail for every pace, from a stroll before breakfast to a day out in the back country.

  • Easy field-edge trails and pond strolls
  • Long meandering gravel lanes
  • Scenic creek-side trails
  • Wilderness back-country trails

Wildlife is plentiful and largely unbothered by people, so bring a camera.

Cornhole and yard games

Real family time, outdoors, with people who are actually in front of you. Cornhole, horseshoes, croquet and more besides.

If you have a favourite you would like to bring, just ask first — unless our insurance man frowns on it, we will probably say yes.

Foraging

Depending on the season and on what you know, there is a good deal here worth eating — mushrooms, berries, apples, and a long list of plants known only to the people who know them.

IT IS A WORKING FARM

You will meet the neighbours
